Canada CRS

Canada CRS

Launched in 2015, the Express Entry Program quickly became one of the most appreciated systems in the world, as it provided equal relocation chances to foreigners seeking to move to Canada. The scheme relies on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) through which applicants can calculate their scores based on the points they obtain for meeting certain criteria.

Shortly referred to as the Canada CRS, this method is now one of the most advanced and successful in the world. If you plan to move to Canada under the Express Entry Stream, request the services of our immigration law firm.

What does the Comprehensive Ranking System imply?

The CRS is an online tool developed by the Canadian government meant to award points based on specific criteria to those who want to immigrate to Canada. More specifically, applicants must fill out the fields of this tool, and based on their score they will find out if they are eligible for the Express Entry Program.

The Canada CRS requires a candidate to obtain a minimum of 67 points out of a total of 1200 points.

Our immigration lawyer in Canada can explain the mechanism behind the Comprehensive Ranking System.

How does it work?

If you are a foreign citizen and want to relocate to Canada, the first step you will need to do is fill out your profile on the Canada CRS. You need to complete information like:

  • work qualifications and experience;
  • studies;
  • age and marital status;
  • language skills.

If you meet the minimum requirements for these fields, you should obtain the lowest score of 67 points that will make you eligible for immigration. The government carries out Express Entry draws every 2 weeks and candidates with the best scores are issued invitations to apply for the program they are interested in.

Given a large number of applications, it is best to try to obtain the highest score possible, which is 1200 points.

If you want to move to Canada and need support in increasing your CRS score, do not hesitate to ask for the support of our local immigration lawyers.

One of the first steps in obtaining Canadian residency is passing the Comprehensive Ranking System test. This implies obtaining a minimum score of 67 points, however, we recommend trying to gather as many points as possible in order to increase your immigration chances. You can rely on for some pointers in this sense.

The Canada CRS and the Express Entry Scheme

The Express Entry Program has 3 sub-schemes:

All 3 immigration programs require applicants to first pass the Comprehensive Ranking System requirements in order to be accepted.

Awarding points under the Canadian merit-based ranking system

Here is how the points are awarded under the CRS:

  • language skills can bring you a minimum of 20 points if you have good knowledge of both French and English;
  • education can also bring you another 10 points;
  • work experience can bring another 50 points;
  • age can bring a minimum of 90 points.

However, these points will only earn you a little over the minimum score, which is why the system is designed to help you improve your score. For example, obtaining employment for a minimum period of one year before applying for the Canada CRS will bring you an additional 10 points. Immigrating with your spouse can bring another 10 points. Also, having a relative already living here will help you increase your score.
